Welcome to The Honey Collective!

🐝 For the Love of Bees 🐝

Established in 2019, The Honey Collective is a small-scale, start-up beekeeping outfit based on the Garden Route in South Africa.

Our love for bees is rooted in our love for nature. We care about the environment and beekeeping is just one way that we can have a positive impact in the world that we live in.

As pollinators, honeybees play an important ecological role and they’re responsible for pollinating many of the plants that produce food for humans and animals while also contributing meaningfully to the diversity of the flora in the environment.

The Honey Collective manages permanent apiary sites where honeybees are given the opportunity to live in a safe environment with abundant forage.

The Honey Collective produces two small-batch honey varietals including delicious Eden Multifloral Honey and our flagship Tsitsikamma Fynbos Honey.

About Us

The Honey Collective is owned and managed by husband and wife team, Gero and Marie Lilleike.

Our beekeeping journey started in Cape Town in 2019. Out of interest, Marie attended a short beekeeping course and purchased basic beekeeping equipment. All we needed was bees!

Marie spent time reading about bees and beekeeping. After a beekeeping outing with a friend, she returned home with freshly harvested honeycomb. When the sweet honeycomb hit Gero’s lips, he too became fascinated with honey and the bees that make it.

And so, The Honey Collective came to life, a startup beekeeping outfit with a focus on small-batch honey production, bee-related products and education.

About The Honey Collective

Every beekeeper has to start somewhere and we started with a bee rescue!

We rescued our first honeybee colony from a hole in the ground, an experience that marked the start of a beekeeping journey of discovery and determination.

The name “The Honey Collective” is derived from our desire to collaborate with other small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and to create a collaborative beekeeping experience where people can experience the world of bees and enjoy the honey they produce.

We’ve learnt beekeeping through experience (hard work), self-education (reading), mentorship (engaging with other beekeepers) and trial and error (making many mistakes along the way).

Now based on the beautiful Garden Route of South Africa, The Honey Collective looks forward to sharing our beekeeping journey and delightful honey with you!
